Young golfer needs help chasing dream

A young Cordova golfer has earned a scholarship to a prestigious golf academy in South Carolina, but now she needs some help from Mid-Southerners.

Earlier this year, “Golf Digest” announced Bria’ Sanders was one of the winners of a four year scholarship to the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy. It’s the only school in the world for amateur golfers. The school says in 2009, 94 percent of its seniors earned a college golf scholarship.

Sanders was a straight A student at Cordova Middle School last year and is a member of the Junior National Honor Society. She also had three undefeated seasons as a middle school golfer.

Now, local golfers are banding together to make sure she has everything she needs as the new school year begins. They’re asking people to donate golf clothes, airline tickets, a junior golf tour sponsorship and access to local golf courses when Bria’ comes home for school breaks.
