Wolfchase celebrates 10-10-10

It's the tenth day in the tenth month of the tenth year of this Millennium, and Wolfchase Galleria is ready to celebrate 10-10-10.

You have two opportunities to celebrate, with Tasty Ten and the 10K Sona Med Spa Race.

Tasty Ten is a progressive dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday presented by the Junior League of Memphis.

Guests will enjoy tastings from selected menu items from the following restaurants; Firebirds, Longhorn Steakhouse, Kem’s, Joe’s Crab Shack, The Hyatt Place, Miss Polly’s, Hard Rock Café, Blue’s City Café and Alfred’s and Dyers.

Runners and walkers are invited to the 10K Sona Med Spa Race on Sunday morning.

This event also includes a four mile fun run.

Proceeds from both events will benefit Restoration Inc., an organization dedicated to the help and support of women in the Memphis community who are in need of financial assistance for intensive, out-patient treatment of eating disorders.

Why did the chicken stand on the side of the road?

(Cordova, TN) WMC-TV - Why did the chicken stand on the side of the road?  To advertise a Cordova restaurant, of course.

This large chicken has become a mainstay on Germantown Parkway in front of Slim Skillets.  Slim Skillets is a family restaurant with a twist.  You actually eat their food as a family and the food comes to your table in family size portions.  Their speciality is fried chicken.  Then you get sides like mashed potatoes, corn, slaw and cornbread.

I stopped by Slim Skillets to take pictures of the large chicken named "Slim" and his sidekicks, Betty, Barbara and Bonnie.  Slim was dressed up for Halloween.  He had a necklace made out of fall leaves and he had a fake human hand in his mouth.  The chickens were really getting into the Halloween spirit.

Slim Skillets is located in a shopping center along with Plato's Closet and Newk's.  It's where the Bola Pasta used to be.

Cooking up something different

Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry, is a build your own bowl, fast casual, Asian stir-fry concept.

Customers like the "Build your own bowl" experience in which they can choose their protein, seasonings, vegetables, sauce and starch — then have their fresh-cooked meal brought to the table. The brand’s loyal fans also enjoy posting their favorite bowl choices on the Genghis Grill’s Facebook fan page. Genghis also courts to-go orders with its online ordering.

The atmosphere is colorful, lively, and a lot of fun! It's actually not a cuisine, but an INTERACTIVE style of exhibition cooking modeled after a centuries-old legend. According to this legend, 12th century Mongol warriors, led by the mighty warrior GENGHIS KHAN, heated their shields over open fires to grill food in the fields of battle!!

Arlington scout troop builds birdhouses for missionaries

Information provided by Boy Scout Troop 452:

Boy Scout Troop 452, chartered by Arlington United Methodist Church, first began making handcrafted birdhouses for Missions fundraisers in 2008 for Habitat for Humanity’s Toolbox Bash annual dinner/silent auction as part of Habitat’s Youth United program and raised about $500 for missions on their first try.

Most recently, Troop 452 made 16 birdhouses to raise money for the combined mission team of Arlington, Vineyard and Christ United Methodist Churches in the Memphis area to go on a mission trip to Liberia, Africa in July.  Airfare has skyrocketed for the team of ten going to install dental equipment and plant palm oil trees as a means of income.  That income will be used to send their children to school as there are no free pubic schools in Liberia.
