Public Hearing Scheduled In Lakeland

The Lakeland Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 p.m..  The hearing will present an ordinance of the City of Lakeland amending the Fee Schedule to include I.H. Clubhouse Rental Fees for Friday & Saturday.

An ordinance pertaining to Sanitation Fees will also be brought up at the hearing.

The Public Hearing will be held at the Lakeland City Hall, located at  10001 U.S. Highway 70.

Barbara Hicks is displaying her original art at Lakeland City Hall, located at 10001 Highway 70. The display includes a wide variety of art and area residents are encouraged to stop by and view her work during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

SC Head Start Sponsors Free Health Fair

Shelby County Head Start is sponsoring a free Community Health Fair on Monday January 16, 9:00-1:00 pm, at the Hollywood Community Center located at 1560 North Hollywood.

Families are invited to meet representatives of several social service agencies which include the medical field, law enforcement agencies and the military.  Students from the Soulsville Charter School will provide entertainment.  Several area barbers will give free haircuts and free food will be provided by area vendors.

Lakeland Supplemental Income Progress

Two weeks ago, Lakeland residents received a letter advising of a Supplemental Income Program and a form for submitting a donation to the city for enhancing services not already budgeted. Those services include; the Senior Center, City Beautification, Park Development, Youth Program, and the EMA.

As of Wednesday, the 14th, 41 persons have contributed a total of $3,515 to the program. The donations have resulted in a total $3,515 so far.

Anyone interested in donating may use this form, or call City Hall (867-2717) for a form.

Pet Parade and New Off-Leash Dog Park

Pet Parade and New Off-Leash Dog Park

The Downtown Memphis Commission is hosting the first Downtown “Howliday” Pet and Family Parade this Saturday, December 10.  The parade begins at the corner of Main Street and Monroe (in front of One Commerce Square) at 3 pm and marches to Court Square for an afternoon of games, caroling, pet photos and other activities.  Pets and people in the parade are encouraged to dress in festive, holiday attire.  Anyone can participate and there is no registration fee.

Also this Saturday, Downtown’s first off-leash dog park, The Barking Lot, will open on the corner of Jefferson and Main Street.  Property owners Pinkney & Janice Herbert partnered with the Downtown Memphis Commission to transform what was a vacant, blighted lot into a multi-use space that includes the dog park and a landing space for food trucks.  ServiceMaster by Stratos has donated maintenance of the park for one year.

Bellevue's The Majesty of Christmas: "An Irish Christmas"

Special guests Keith and Kristyn Getty will join the Bellevue Choir and Orchestra for this year’s celebration of The Majesty of Christmas.  Favorites at Bellevue, the Gettys return to premiere their new Christmas CD and will bring an expanded band with them.  The Getty's music is used in churches worldwide and they have written songs such as "In Christ Alone", "The Power Of The Cross", and "Come, People Of The Risen King."

The evening will be a blend of Christmas favorites, traditional carols, and new music written by Keith, Kristyn, and their team.  Combine their band and awe-inspiring music with over 200 voices of the Bellevue Choir and the magnificent Bellevue Orchestra, and it will be an evening you will not want to miss.

2011 Lakeland Holiday Parade This Saturday

The annual Lakeland Holiday Parade, themed Jingle Bell Rock, is scheduled for this Saturday, December 3rd. The parade will be begin at 10 am, with the line-up starting at 9 am on Lakeland Hills Drive and Shadow Green Lane. The parade route is set to travel East on Kingsridge Drive to North on Canada Road and into the entrance to the Lakeland Factory Outlet Mall. An awards ceremony will be held immediately following and is expected to conclude around 12:30 p.m..
