Residents petition for nicer street lights

Residents petition for nicer street lights

Some south Cordova residents have started a petition to get nicer street lights in their neighborhoods.

There is a website set up now for South Cordova residents that opposes "large ugly street lights in south Cordova".

This is the same part of Shelby County recently annexed by the City of Memphis.

They also have a de-annexation petition.

Residents are meeting Thursday night about the de-annexation petition at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Cordova Community Center on Sanga Road.

Action News 5's Jason Miles will preview that meeting on Action News 5 at 6.

New Signs at Shelby Farms

New Signs at Shelby Farms

If you've visited Shelby Farms recently you may have noticed there are new signs going up at all the entrances.

The signs are green, grey and orange and are about 20 feet tall. They bring new attention to the park and make it a little easier to notice when you entering the Shelby Farms Park.

This is part of many improvements in Shelby Farms.

The Park’s Master Plan was informed by the most ambitious public outreach and input efforts ever undertaken in Shelby County. The process was designed to insure that the park’s future reflected the desires and ideas of the citizens it belongs to.

The park made the announcement on Facebook Thursday.

The park thanked the hard work of the buffalo ranger, veterinarian and wildlife experts for keeping the herd healthy.

Five healthy caves were born last spring.

Lakelands annual Visit with Santa scheduled at the IH Clubhouse Saturday, December 8th

Lakelands annual Visit with Santa scheduled at the IH Clubhouse Saturday, December 8th

The Lakeland Lions Club and the City of Lakeland are inviting children to the annual “Visit with Santa” at the IH Clubhouse from 10 a.m. till noon on Saturday, December 8th.

Parents or grandparents will need to sign-in by writing the child’s name and what they are wearing. Participants are also encouraged to write something about their child (i.e. got an A in math, needs to pick-up toys), to make the experience personalized for each child.  A Lakeland volunteer will be in the area where the children cannot hear, and talk to Santa on a walkie-talkie, reading from the sign-in cards. Tables will be set-up so that children can color with crayons.

Don’t forget to bring your camera for pictures with Santa. For more information, visit www.lakelandtn.gov; or, contact Recreation Program Coordinator Joy Cloud at 867-5414 or jcloud@lakelandtn.org.
