Lakeland establishes adopt a street program to 'put litter in its place'

The City of Lakeland has implemented a new Adopt A Street Program to assist in cleaning up roadside litter.

The city is inviting volunteer groups or families to help put litter in its place.

It is anticipated that over 5,000 pounds of litter will be collected alongside major roads and streets in Lakeland this year, which would exceed last year’s figure of 3,468 pounds. That's a 44 percent increase.

Volunteers will be asked to conduct cleanups alongside roadways at least four times a year, specifically once during each season.

After one cleanup by the volunteers, the city will install a sign with the volunteers name proudly displayed along that corridor.

All roadside litter will be disposed of by the City of Lakeland.

The City of Lakeland will provide all materials and safety gear necessary for the cleanup program and a staff member will be present during the cleanup.

Staff Review: A delicious date night in Cordova

Staff Review: A delicious date night in Cordova

Those driving down N. Germantown Parkway might notice a sparkling white “grand opening” sign for a new Ethiopian restaurant in Cordova. It is actually simply called Ethiopian Restaurant.

My husband and I were looking for something fun and interesting to try recently. After driving around Cordova for a while, we decided to just pull over at Humdingers for a bite to eat. Well, before getting out of the car, I noticed something new.  There was an Ethiopian restaurant a few doors down. And they were installing their grand opening sign at that very moment. I was not sure if the place was actually open for business, but I decided we had to go for it!

We walked in, and they were indeed open for business. The place was quiet, clean, and very neat. The server greeted us with a smile, and explained the menu to my husband and I. This was our first time ever having Ethiopian food, so we were excited to see what it was like.

Two people who inspired me this week

Two people who inspired me this week

Something that has always been a blessing to me in my professional life, is the different people I meet from day to day, just by virtue of working for a television news station - but also by chance. I've met people from all walks of life with complex life stories and sometimes very public struggles. This week I met with two individuals who not only impressed me, but also left me inspired.
