Arlington High wins State Championship baseball

Arlington High School Varsity Baseball won the Division 1 "AAA" State Championship in May 2012.

The baseball team received their state championship rings in a ring ceremony held during halftime at the Arlington High School football game on September 7th.

Each of the varsity players received a ring presented by head baseball coach Chris Ring.

New park opens in Cordova

New park opens in Cordova

(WMC-TV) - Fletcher Creek Park on Dexter Road near Chimneyrock Boulevard is now open.

The park has swings for all ages and slides of all sizes on a soft cushioned surface. 

There are picnic tables under a pavilion surrounded by grills and large green area for games and activities. 

A walking trail will take you through the wooded area and a wooden deck overlooks Fletcher Creek. 

There are plans for future expansion but for now, the residents of Cordova are glad to have another park for family activities. 

Walk Your Kids to School Day is approaching

International walk to school day in Memphis is coming up.

Nearly 600 Cordova Elementary School students, parents and staff - outfitted in "Spirit Shirts" and carrying posters decorated by students - are expected to participate in this nationwide event.

The Walk Day Parade is scheduled for Wednesday October 3rd at 7:45 in the morning.

It will begin at the Bert Ferguson Community Center and continue to Cordova Elementary.

Upon arriving at the school, students will participate in activities and games sponsored by the Cordova Elementary PTA.

'Spin' your way through the Mid-South maze

Time to get lost in this year's maze at Agricenter International, which is located 7777 Walnut Grove Road.

This year's theme is 'Spin'.

The maze is designed to be a spider web with a couple of spiders mixed in.

In addition to the maze, there will be a Jumping Pillow!  It can hold up to forty people at once, and the cost is $4 per person with unlimited jumping time. 

Other activities include a corn cannon; where for $1 you can launch ears of corn at targets for a prize. Each dollar paid will grant you three tries at the target.

Finally, in the month of October there will be haunted hayrides. The hayrides will be on Friday and Saturdays.

Local mom finds Mid-South kid-friendly restaurants

(WMC-TV) - Are you looking for Mid-south restaurants that have separate play areas for the kids?  Here is a list of Memphis-Mom approved restaurants. 

One restaurant that has many locations and is family-friendly is Chick-fil-A.  They have separate and sound-proofed play area for children.  They also provide free Wi-Fi for those parents that need to get some work in while the kids play.

There are several great places with play areas in the Collierville area.  One is the Dinks location in Collierville.  They have a playroom for kids in the back corner.  The Back Yard Burgers on Houston Levee also has a great play area.

(WMC-TV) - It's always nice to do something you enjoy and help others at the same time. Here's an opportunity to do both this Saturday!

The "Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival" will be held this Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at AutoZone Park (at the corner of Union Ave. and 3rd Street), and it benefits the Ronald McDonald House.

Participants will be able to enjoy a variety of ice creams, frozen treats, snacks, and drinks from several local vendors. There will be games and activities for kids, including face-painting and photos with costumed characters, as well as an Entertainment Stage featuring live entertainment and fun contests.  Additionally, there will be a silent auction.

Tickets are $7 in advance, and $10 at the door.

Countrywood Neighborhood Sale

Every year, yard sale bargain hunters flock to Cordova, Tennessee for the annual Countrywood Neighborhood Sale sponsored by the Countrywood Neighborhood Association.

On Friday, September 22, the huge yard event will draw crowds from all over the Greater Memphis area and from neighboring states.

Last year the sale was a huge success.  More than 200 residents participated

Rain or shine, the participating vendors will sell their almost brand new or slightly used items from furniture to clothing and televisions to motorized vehicles to make a buck.  Not to mention the local economy benefited as people booked hotel rooms for a few days to stay and visit the grand city of Memphis to shop it’s local stores and dine in local restaurants.
