Students, parents react to fake Ridgeway High School student

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - Parents of Ridgeway High School athletes are speaking out about a student who faked his way into their school, and cost their kids a chance at a championship.

The Ridgeway Roadrunners were kicked out of the state tournament because of an ineligible player.

Now parents want answers about the man at the center of this developing scandal.

Parents and players said that his name is McKinzey Sewell. They said he went to school and played basketball with the team side by side. The team did not know he wasn't eligible to play or to even be a student at their high school.

"I wouldn't want to hurt nobody like that," said Ridgeway Senior Desean Dockery.

Dockery had no idea one of his teammates would cost him a chance at a state championship.

"He just act like one of us, we didn't really hang with him," he said.

CORDOVA, TN- (WMC-TV) - The Cordova community is still on edge after a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted and the suspect is still on the loose.

According to Memphis Police, a 19-year-old woman was forced into a man's car at the intersection of Dexter and Germantown Parkway.

Then she was driven to another location and sexually assaulted, said police.

"You have to be cautious, especially at my age, of everything that's going on around you," said resident Cissi Loftis.

Loftis said being taken and assaulted is something that has worried her in the past. She admits the recent incident has made her more aware of her surroundings.

Women everywhere should be able to protect themselves. Chad Connolly is a 4th degree black belt, and works with many women to help them protect themselves.

"Do everything you can to not get in the car. You bite, pull hair, get some gravel on the ground throw it in their face," said Connolly.
