Arlington and Lakeland Residents Head to the Polls

Voters in Arlington and Lakeland will elect new representation today.

Current Arlington Mayor Russell Wiseman decided not to seek a third term and four candidates, including current aldermen Hugh Lamar and Brian Thompson, along with former radio personality Brian (Brian Elder) Groves and county school board member Mike Wissman, vie to be his replacement.

There are also three alderman races on today's Arlington ballot.

In Position 1, incumbent Glen Bascom faces Larry Harmon. In Position 2, Gerald McGee is seeking re-election against Matthew Thie.

Lamar vacated his Position 3 seat to run for mayor, opening that race to four candidates, Steven Bierbrodt, Chris Burcky, Claudia Horton and Jeff McKee.

In the City of Lakeland, three candidates are seeking two commission seats. Incumbent Randy Nicholson, the city's vice mayor, Jim Schultz, a member of the city's natural resources board, and former commissioner Gerrit Verschuur are on the ballot.

Lakeland voters get two choices from the three candidates, and the top two vote-getters will fill the two seats. The open position is from long-time commissioner Mark Hartz, who decided to not run for re-election

Polls close at 7 tonight. For complete results on today's elections visit wmctv.com.
