Girl Scouts build rain gardens at City Hall

Under the direction of Staff Engineer Emily Boswell, Girl Scout Troop # 10125 worked hard on developing "rain gardens" for a beautification project at Lakeland City Hall.

Troop Leader Shelly Cheng reported that Girl Scouts working on their Junior Bronze Award who worked on the project included Megan Cheng, Emily Green, Marissa Crowell and Taryn Krier. Other Brownies and family members also assisted in the all day project.

Outdoor furniture company coming to Cordova

Jack Willis Companies, a retailer of outdoor furniture, has signed a five year lease for 14,000 square feet in the Shops at Rock Creek located at 2362 Germantown Pkwy. in Cordova.

The 61,333-square-foot shopping center was constructed in 2006 and is owned by Crossroads Realty Group LLC.

This is the first location in Tennessee for Jack Wills.

Wine deliveries bill passes in Tennessee

A Tennessee bill that would allow wine to be shipped to every home in the state is now up to the Governor.

The bill allows direct wine shipments from retailers to consumers -- even in cities that currently only allow liquor-by-the-drink sales.

Governor Bill Haslam is expected to sign the bill.

City giving gardeners free mulch

City giving gardeners free mulch

City of Memphis Public Works will provide free mulch for Memphis residents Friday, April 22 in observance of Earth Day.

Beginning at dawn, free mulch will be available in the Liberty Bowl parking lot, located on Hollywood, just south of Central. The mulch will be provided on a load-your-own, while-it-lasts, basis and residents must provide their own loading equipment and containers. Commercial businesses and non Memphis residents are not eligible.

The Tennessee Valley Authority and MLG and W are teaming up for an Energy Smart event, on Wednesday April 20 in celebration of Earth Day. The Workshop will take place at 11a.m. at the Central, Whitehaven, East Shelby, and Bartlett libraries. During the Energy Smart workshop you will learn more ways to conserve energy and save money. Lakeland Community Easter Egg Hunt Scheduled For This Saturday!

The Annual Lakeland Community Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 16th at 10 a.m. The event is for children aged 2-10 years old and will be held at the IH Managerial Park at 4523 Canada Road in Lakeland. Children will have the opportunity to hunt candy-filled eggs, enjoy live entertainment have their face painted by "Rainbow the Clown" and have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. The event is sponsored by the Lakeland Lions Club, Trustmark Band and the City of Lakeland. So bring your baskets and camera and hop over to IH Managerial Park for some spring time fun!

The event will be held Saturday April, 16th at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the University of Memphis campus.
365 Innovation Drive from 9am-2pm.  Corey D. Johnson, Director of Community Health and Well-Being from LeBonheur Children's Hospital will be the guest speaker.

A continental breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:45am and lunch will be from noon until 1pm.

Free parking is available for all attendees, but seating is limited, so make plans to attend now.
