Bartlett Station’s Farmers Market begins May 18th

Beginning Saturday, May 18th, the 2013 Bartlett Station Farmers Market will get underway at Freeman Park.

Nestled among the shady pines of one the best municipal parks in Tennessee, the 2013 Bartlett Station Farmers Market offers residents access to locally grown, sustainable, fresh produce and value-added products.

The market will be open through October 26, from 7:00 am until Noon each Saturday. The market is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit, family and nutrition-oriented gather place. The vendors have an incredible variety of fruits and vegetables, with some tasty heirloom strains, jellies, plants, flowers, baked goods, seafood, artisan coffee, fresh chips and dips, fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade, and so much more!

There will also be educational and entertaining programs throughout the season.

City of Lakeland recognized with Growth Award and 9th consecutive Tree City Awards

Lakeland Mayor Scott Carmichael accepted Lakeland’s 9th consecutive Tree City Award and 8th Consecutive Growth Award at the annual Arbor Day event last Saturday. The event at City Hall Park included recognition of the Lakeland Elementary School Arbor Day poster contest as well as a visit by Shawn Posey, representing the Tennessee Division of Forestry.

Natural Resource Director Eric Bridges developed the first Tree City Award and has been successful in being awarded the Growth Award each succeeding year.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation web site, “The Tree City USA Growth Award is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating Tree City USA communities.

Running program geared toward kids to kick off

Saturday marks the beginning of something big for kids all over Memphis.

The Memphis Runners and Track Program kicks off for children ages five to 13.

It's called the MRTC Kids Run Program, and it focuses on children in the community and teaches them the sport of running.

Home Depot to hire 400 associates in Memphis

The Atlanta-based home improvement retailer needs 80,000 new workers for its busy Spring season.

That's 10,000 more than it hired last year.

Home Depot said the jobs include both part-time and full-time positions.
