Commit to raising $2,500 and receive exclusive weekend package; Discount pricing ends April 30
Early registration is now open for the 2012 St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend to from Nov. 29-Dec. 1. More than 17,000 participants are expected for the annually sold out event that benefits St. Jude, where the world’s sickest children receive the best care at no cost to their family.
The race begins and ends in downtown Memphis and the course takes participants passed many of the city’s most popular landmarks and attractions that tell the story of Memphis’ vibrant history and rich culture, including the world famous Beale Street, Mississippi River, Sun Studio (where Elvis Presley first recorded) and the National Civil Rights Museum. The race also takes participants through the campus of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, often considered one of the most meaningful highlights along the route.
Those who opt for early bird registration, pledge to be St. Jude Heroes, and commit to raising $2,500 for the hospital can take advantage of a weekend travel package that includes: the race entry, a two-night stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton or the Memphis Marriott Downtown, an invitation to a pre-race pasta party on Nov. 30, pre- and post-race access to the VIP Lounge and other program incentives such as running gear. The early bird offer is only available until April 30.
Marathon participants also will have access to a fitness expo at the Memphis Cook Convention Center on Nov. 29-30. Inside, they can receive support from pace teams, on-course and post-race food and beverages, goodie bags, commemorative t-shirts, collectible bibs, race medals and more.
St. Jude is celebrating 50 years of finding cures that have saved the lives of countless children. Programs like St. Jude Heroes are important to St. Jude because the hospital relies primarily on the public’s generosity to support its breakthrough research and lifesaving treatment for pediatric cancer and other deadly diseases. It costs $1.7 million to operate the hospital every day and more than 75 percent of that funding comes from the public through programs like St. Jude Heroes.
The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is one of the few major marathons in the country to benefit a single charity. For a complete listing of upcoming marathons across the nation that present opportunities for St. Jude Heroes to raise funds for the hospital, visit stjudeheroes.org. Coming soon is the St. Jude Country Music Marathon and Half Marathon on April 28 in Nashville, Tenn. Approximately 35,000 people from around the world will be there for 26.2 miles of live country music and other activities.
