Mayor Luttrell continues family life series with Just Care Family Network

Shelby County Government continues to partner with faith-based organizations and other groups to host Mayor Mark Luttrell’s Family Life Series. Representatives from Shelby County Government and other agencies will speak at Keel Avenue Baptist Church during a five month series of presentations.

On May 16, the CDC issued its first comprehensive report on children's mental health describing federal activities that track children’s mental disorders in the United States.

Tonight’s series, led by Just Care Family Network Executive Director Dr. Altha Stewart, will aim at “Helping Children and Youth Affected by Crime and Violence” 

 “Just Care Family Network is honored to be a part of this series.

Get ready for summer music.

Cooper-Young is just the most recent to add their list of musicians hitting the gazeebo this summer.

The concerts showcase a mix of local talent with a broad spectrum of music genres each Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in June, July and August. 

The Gazeebo is right at the intersection of Cooper and Young.

Concert and barbecue in the park

Municipal Melodies Concert and barbecue in the park kicks off  Friday, May 10th at 11:30am. The event will be held at the Kiwanis Pavilion and includes live jazz music from Brian “Breeze” Cayolle duo and barbecue from Germantown grilling teams. Barbecue sausage link sandwiches, homemade baked beans, corn, slaw, drinks, and dessert will be be available for purchase .  Lunch will be served until 12:45 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes.

In conjunction with the Municipal Melodies concert, "Fun in the Sun" will also take place on May 10th. The event starts at 10:45am.

Rockin Robin to highlight Lakeland Outdoors Festival

The City of Lakeland will host the 2nd Annual Outdoors Festival at International Harvester Park on May 4th, 2013 from 9 a.m.

Community Document Shred-It Day Scheduled

First Citizens National Bank in cooperation with the Bartlett Police Department is sponsoring a free on site document shred on Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Citizens are encouraged to bring their documents and other papers to be shredded to the First Citizens National Bank at 7580 Highway 70, which is located at the intersection of Highway 70 and Appling Road.

Any questions may be directed to the Bartlett Police Department at 901-385-5510 or First Citizens National Bank at 901-213-9900.

There is a strict 100 pound limit on materials to be shredded per person.

The event is designed for personal shredding and not for business documentation disposal.

Free college fair at the Agricenter

Choosing the right college can be a difficult decision. One great resource that's available is the Greater Memphis National College Fair, held on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24 at the Agricenter International.

Representatives from more than 100 colleges will be on hand to answer your questions and tell you about their academic programs.  Informational workshops will also be held.

Even better - admission is free!  The College Fair is open from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday April 23rd and from 9am to 12:30pm on Wednesday, April 24th.  To register click here.

It is that time of year for weddings. Just in time for many of you brides-to-be, there is a free wedding workshop at the Colonial Country Club from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 21.
