Adult Greek Language Class begins tonight

Adult Greek Language Class begins tonight

The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes alive in an adult Greek class that begins on his national holiday today.

Have you ever thought of learning the Greek language and some Greek culture as well? You have a chance to tonight at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis. Retired Priest Father Nicholas Vieron is beginning his Adult Greek tonight in the church hall at Sam Cooper and Highland in Memphis.

Father Vieron has been teaching his adult greek class for 40 years and always begins on Martin Luther King Day. Vieron is one of a few white ministers left from the 1968 struggle who manifested efforts for social justice led by the late Rabbi James Wax.

It's a 14 week course that meets once a week at the church

New Signs at Shelby Farms

New Signs at Shelby Farms

If you've visited Shelby Farms recently you may have noticed there are new signs going up at all the entrances.

The signs are green, grey and orange and are about 20 feet tall. They bring new attention to the park and make it a little easier to notice when you entering the Shelby Farms Park.

This is part of many improvements in Shelby Farms.

The Park’s Master Plan was informed by the most ambitious public outreach and input efforts ever undertaken in Shelby County. The process was designed to insure that the park’s future reflected the desires and ideas of the citizens it belongs to.

Wal-Mart to Host Bike and Toy Drive

It is not too late to lend a helping hand to kids in need this holiday season.

A local Wal-Mart will host a toy and bike shopping spree for underprivileged children. But first, they must collect items for the children. The drive will start Wednesday, December 19 and end Saturday, December 22.

The drive will be held at the Wal-Mart located at 577 N. Germantown Parkway. It will start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day.

The items will be donated to children at The Neighborhood Christian Center, Samelson, and John Buckman Boys and Girls Club.  At this time, The Neighborhood Christian center still has around 800 kids that are in need this season.

This drive comes at a time when many need it most.

Shelby Farms Park is moving some of their buffalo herd members to a wildlife preserve in Alamo, TN so that they can keep the herd at the appropriate range.

The park made the announcement on Facebook Thursday.

It's important that the park maintain the right acreage per animal and that we ensure the diversity of the herd, according to the announcement.

The park thanked the hard work of the buffalo ranger, veterinarian and wildlife experts for keeping the herd healthy.
