Suspect caught on camera trying to steal from Cordova Walmart

(WMC-TV) - Investigators are searching for a suspect who was caught on surveillance camera trying to steal from Walmart in Cordova.

The lone suspect filled a shopping cart with items and tried to sneak out of the auto care center without paying.

"He took some items and decided he didn't want to pay for them," said Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Chip Washington.  "He didn't succeed, fortunately."

Investigators released a series of still photos from the attempted getaway.  They show the suspect scale a security sensor and attempt to crawl through the ceiling, only to crash to the floor.  The suspect then left, leaving behind the cart of items.

The suspect left before anyone realized what had happened, but investigators said it is still a crime.  The store also had to replace the ceiling damage.

The photos are shared on the sheriff's office's Facebook page.
