Man facing eviction accused of trying to burn home down | Crime
(WMC-TV) - Instead of leaving peacefully, police say a man who was being evicted from his apartment decided to try and burn it down.
Quinton Williams has been charged with aggravated arson for the fire in the 8000 block of Fletcher Cove. He's also been charged with theft in an unrelated incident.
Firefighters say Williams' apartment was unlocked when they were called to the scene on July 26 and smoke was pouring from the building.
Inside, fire crews say they found several fires that had been intentionally set.
A witness told investigators that he saw a man carrying a gas can walk into the apartment a little more than an hour before the fires started, according to court records.
Police later took surveillance video from a nearby gas station and say it showed a man matching Williams' description purchasing a gas can and filling it up.
After the fire, investigators also say they found a gas can that had been a tossed in an apartment complex dumpster.
Police say Williams had lived in the apartment for about a month, but was being evicted because his rent checks had bounced.
