Cordova woman awakes to neighbor standing by bed | Crime
(WMC-TV) – The screams of a 26-year-old woman scared off a neighbor who broke into her home and stood next to her bed while she was slept, according to investigators.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies say on July 2, the victim found her 18-year-old neighbor’s debit card in her room.
Later that night, around 11:45, deputies say the woman awoke to find the debit card’s owner in her room standing near her bed.
Justin Smith, according to court records, was only wearing a pair of red athletic shorts at the time.
Smith ran away from her room when the victim started screaming, according to investigators.
Deputies say the debit card had damage indicating it had been used to pick the victim’s lock. They also found a pair of red shorts at his house, just a few doors down from the victim’s home.
Smith has been charged with aggravated burglary.
