(WMC-TV) - Cars, credit and construction top the list of the industries most consumers can't stand, according to a survey by the Consumer Federation of America and the North American Consumer Protection Investigators.

The organizations surveyed 38 state consumer protection agencies about "...the most common, fastest-growing and worst complaints they received in 2011."

BBB: Memphis company’s name being used in mystery shopping scam

(WMC-TV) – The Better Business Bureau says for the second time in recent months, a Memphis company’s name is being used by scam artists.

The BBB previously said conmen were fraudulently using the name of Axiom Research LLC in their scams. Now the group says crooks have started using another local company’s name, Summerfield Associates, Inc., to target their victims.

Cathy Faust, Shelby County Extension Director, is the presenter for the “Mastering Your Finances/Building Wealth workshop offered at the Parkway Village Memphis Public Library & Information Center branch on Tuesday, May 22 at 1 pm. Faust will show attendees ways to make their money stretch when it’s “Too Much Month at The End of Your Money.” 

The workshop is part of the UT Shelby County Extension services to Tennesseans to help improve the quality of life. UT Extension offers a host of programs to Tennesseans from increasing urbanization to increasing concern for environmental sustainability.

St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon sells out in record time

General registration for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon has sold out in record time, but there’s another option for runners interested in participating in the event on Saturday, Dec. 1. This year’s sell-out marks a new record date for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon compared to last year when the race sold-out July 15.

Limited spots are still available for participants who also sign up as a St. Jude Hero and commit to raise at least $500 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other deadly childhood diseases.
