Making business contacts in a flash

In today’s busy world of texting, Facebook, and Twitter, it’s not uncommon to never meet in person the people you do business with everyday. But if you want to make contacts the old-fashioned way, the library in Cordova has an event for you.

Professionals of all ages will have an opportunity to meet and market their products and services during a free Speed Networking event. It will be held from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Cordova Branch (8457 Trinity Road).

A spin off of speed dating, the event offers attendants an opportunity to build professional relationships and promote business ventures in a brief amount of time.

Schnuck's only closing one store

Despite lots of speculation, Schnuck's isn't leaving the Memphis market.

The grocery chain is closing its Cordova store at 1150 North Germantown Parkway, but representatives say Schnuck's isn't planning to close any other stores.

Lori Willis, director of communications for Schnucks, says the store is shutting its doors because of increased pressure from five competing stores within a two-mile radius.

"In the Cordova area our concern is there are so many competitors in a very small area, and there's not enough customer traffic to go around," Willis said.

Willis also said it wasn't true that other area stores were going to be closed.

The Cordova store is scheduled to close Saturday, August 28 at 6 p.m.
