Evelyn Thorpe-Hibbler is the director of the First Class Montessori School, a multinational school that uses an elite and progressive educational program originated by Dr. Maria Montessori in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1991, First Class Montessori School opened its first location in Midtown at 1336 Peabody Ave., which is now under the leadership of Hibbler’s daughter, Erin Thorpe-Parish. Success at the Midtown location keyed the opening of a second school at 1725 Appling Rd. in Cordova.

Maintenance interrupts phone calls to MLGW

MLGW’s phone bank will be down for a couple of hours Thursday night for maintenance.

The utility company says its customer care center will be down from 11 p.m. Thursday night until 1 a.m. Friday morning. Both 820-7878 and 544-MLGW will be out of service during this time, but the utility says it shouldn’t have a large impact on customers because the numbers are typically unmanned during those hours.

Mid-Southerners will be lined up early Friday morning trying to get the best deals during stores’ annual Black Friday sales.

In fact, in an effort to stretch the holiday shopping season a little further, some national chains are ditching Black Friday altogether. The Gap, Walmart and Sears are opening up stores across the country on Thanksgiving night.

Fast Park collects food for needy

Fast Park, a nationwide group of off-site airport parking lots, collected 4,484 pounds of canned food for hungry people during October.

The company also gave a dollar to food banks for each pound of food that was donated.

“The food drive is a way for us to unite with our customers who are doing something very important for our community,” said Melanie Chavez who oversees construction and branding for Fast Park.

Muggles invading Cordova movie theater
