Local ministry to host skateboard competition

FaithSkate Ministries will host its second annual King of Kings Skate Contest on Friday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at The Grove at Red Oak Lake in Cordova.

According to Matt Wright, founder and director of FaithSkate Ministries, the event provides an opportunity for local skaters to compete in a positive environment.

"We had a couple hundred people attend last year and the event is well known in the skate community," Wright said.

The contest is open to the public, and the entry fee is only $5. Participants will compete for $500 in cash and prizes. To register for the competition, contact Matt Wright at matt@faithskate.org.

Following the event, FaithSkate will host an overnight retreat for the skaters. Festivities will include a late-night skate session, bonfire, swimming contest and canoe race.

The cost for the retreat is $25, and some partial scholarships are available.  This fee covers lodging and three meals. Retreat registration information can be found at http://www.faithskate.org/retreat.html.
