The Internal Revenue Service will host a special nationwide Open House on Saturday, May 15, to help small businesses and individuals solve federal tax problems.

The Memphis IRS office at 22 North Front St. will be one of approximately 200 IRS offices open May 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. Taxpayers who come to the IRS Open House will have access to IRS staff on site or by telephone, depending on the type of issue, to help them work through tax problems and walk out with solutions .

“If you have a federal tax problem or issue that needs resolving, we hope you'll give us a chance to tackle it Saturday," said IRS spokesman Dan Boone.
IRS employees will be prepared to help with most tax issues, including setting up payment plans, explaining tax notices, or resolving tax return errors. For those who have not filed their 2009 tax return and whose household income is less than $49,000, free return preparation and e-filing is available. Taxpayers must bring all the necessary documents.
IRS workers will also be prepared to answer questions about disaster tax relief, including casualty loss claims, and to provide help with getting copies of tax returns destroyed in the recent storms and floods that hit Tennessee.

The Open House on May 15 is the first of three events scheduled through the end of June. The next two Saturday events are planned for June 5 and June 26. Details regarding those events will be available soon.
Locations for the May 15 Open House are listed on the IRS website, IRS.gov.
