Concert and barbecue in the park

Municipal Melodies Concert and barbecue in the park kicks off Friday, May 10th at 11:30am. The event will be held at the Kiwanis Pavilion and includes live jazz music from Brian “Breeze” Cayolle duo and barbecue from Germantown grilling teams. Barbecue sausage link sandwiches, homemade baked beans, corn, slaw, drinks, and dessert will be be available for purchase . Lunch will be served until 12:45 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes.

In conjunction with the Municipal Melodies concert, "Fun in the Sun" will also take place on May 10th. The event starts at 10:45am.

The rain date for both events is scheduled for Friday, May 17th. For more information, call 757-7375.

Contractor hits gas line

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Fire Department responded to a possible gas leak in Cordova at Walnut Bend Road and Walnut Bend Cove late Tuesday afternoon.

The department responded to a hazardous materials call around 4:40 p.m.

A private contractor was working in the area and struck a three inch gas line, according to officials. There were no injuries.

The situation is now stable after MLGW secured the pipe.

The area was deemed safe at 6:01 p.m.

Center provides relief for Mid-South sinus infections

(WMC-TV) - Mid-South allergies can lead to brutal sinus infections, and now there is a new way to fight back.

It is that time of year where many Memphians suffer from sinus problems, but a center in the Mid-South is offering a quick in-office procedure to help.

"Half of my nose I could barely breathe out of," said Kenneth Moss describing his sinus and allergy problems.

"More recent years especially this year, it's worse for a lot of people," he said.

After 15 years of enduring Memphis allergy season – he was fed up.

That is where Doctor Jan Petri came it at Memphis Relief Center.

"It basically remodels the sinus open. And it does move bone, but without a lot of hard surgical techniques like we've used in the past," said Petri.

She performed a balloon sinuplasty on Moss. Using a small flexible device, the procedure went up through Moss' nose, inflated a small balloon, and opened up his sinus cavity.

Lakeland Community Clean Up Day scheduled in May

The City of Lakeland and Republic Services will co-sponsor a special waste collection day Saturday, May 4 between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm. The purpose of the special waste collection day is to provide residents of Lakeland an opportunity to dispose of extra stored up garbage from their garages and back yards.

This year the following items will be collected:

*Household Trash

*Bulky Trash such as discarded furniture, desks, tables, chairs

* Electronic Waste such as fluorescents, monitors, computers, printers, cell phones, batteries, (No televisions please)

* Metal

*Yard Waste

*Automobile Tires with a maximum limit of 4. (Please remove rims)

*White Goods (washers, dryers, no refrigerators or A/Cs)

*Construction Debris (residential only)

New Greek restaurant opens in Cordova

Pita Wraps is a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant that opened early this January. But, the owner-manager is not new to the restaurant business.

This is the third location that the owner , who prefers to go by just Mo, has opened in the Memphis area. The previous locations are under new management, but customers can now head to the Cordova area to visit with Mo.

He is always friendly and urges new customers to “bite it, before you buy it.” The food is delicious and healthy and always made fresh for each customer.

Mo recommends that first-time customers try their specialty, the chicken shawarma wrap. They also have a great vegetarian option, the falafel and hummus wrap.
