New Greek restaurant opens in Cordova

New Greek restaurant opens in Cordova

Pita Wraps is a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant that opened early this January. But, the owner-manager is not new to the restaurant business.

This is the third location that the owner , who prefers to go by just Mo, has opened in the Memphis area. The previous locations are under new management, but customers can now head to the Cordova area to visit with Mo.

He is always friendly and urges new customers to “bite it, before you buy it.”  The food is delicious and healthy and always made fresh for each customer.

Mo recommends that first-time customers try their specialty, the chicken shawarma wrap.  They also have a great vegetarian option, the falafel and hummus wrap.

This location is at 1425 N. Germantown Pkwy, Ste. 4 in Cordova, TN. Like their facebook page here.

Lakeland neighborhood brings decoys to a bird fight

Over the past few years, the Woodland Park Homeowners association in Lakeland has had an overabundance of Canadian Geese removed from their small lake.

In 2012 over 50 geese were professionally removed from the neighborhood and the small lake is unable to accommodate the increasing numbers each year.

Because they eat grass for food, the birds destroy the neighborhood common ground areas and some lawns.  Their droppings blemish streets, lawns and driveways. But worst of all is that those droppings find their way into the lake through storm drains, which can cause bacteria to grow in the water. This in turn is not good for the fish and turtles in the lake.

In an attempt to keep the geese numbers down, the homeowners association is placing White Swan decoys in the lake.

TN General Assembly to vote on lifting municipal school ban

(WMC-TV) - The two and a half year Memphis-Shelby County school merger battle hits a landmark Monday. That is when the Tennessee General Assembly votes whether or not to lift the ban on municipal schools.

"I'm optimistic about it, I'm hopeful," said the bill's author Senator Mark Norris of Collierville.

Norris hesitated to claim victory before Monday's vote to lift the ban on municipal schools in Tennessee.

"There's some opposition so you can't be presumptuous about it, but we'll do the best we can," he said.

When the Tennessee House and Senate vote on companion bills 4 p.m. Monday, the powerful Republican State Senate Majority Leader Norris will have a Republican super-majority.

The vote impacts every county in the state.

"I think it's just a reaffirmation of the importance of parental choice, neighborhood schools and options," said Norris.

Grocery store thieves target unattended purses

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - Credit card thieves have been targeting some Mid-South grocery stores. As of Sunday, a couple of suspects are under arrest. There is still a concern that others are still out there.

It is something many women have accidentally done before. They are shopping at the grocery store with their purse in the front of the cart. Then they turn around to grab something off a shelf.

That is when these thieves are taking advantage of getting away with many people's wallets, and sometimes more.

"It's always on the shoulder," said shopper Ashley Buescher. "I'm always looking around, and I always have my purse tight on my shoulder. When I'm getting gas I have it locked in my front seat and the card in my pocket."

Just last week someone was not watch their purse, and thieves took advantage.

It happened inside a Kroger on South Mendenhall.
