MCS takes ownership of Chimneyrock Elementary

After years of negotiating, Memphis City Schools obtained ownership of Chimneyrock Elementary School from Shelby County Schools Monday, June 14, at 9 a.m.  

The change occurred as a result of the Chimneyrock Community's annexation into the City of Memphis a few years ago.

Under the leadership of MCS Superintendent Kriner Cash and SCS Superintendent John Akin, the transition took place 17 days earlier than originally planned.

Local ministry to host skateboard competition

FaithSkate Ministries will host its second annual King of Kings Skate Contest on Friday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at The Grove at Red Oak Lake in Cordova.

According to Matt Wright, founder and director of FaithSkate Ministries, the event provides an opportunity for local skaters to compete in a positive environment.

"We had a couple hundred people attend last year and the event is well known in the skate community," Wright said.

Dana Key remembered by family, friends

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Family, friends and church members remembered a legendary gospel music performer and preacher.

Dana Key died Sunday from a pulmonary embolism.  He helped make up the band Degarmo and Key.

COVENANT IS ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES HOST SITE

In February of this year Covenant United Methodist Church became a host site for Angel Food Ministries, a monthly non-profit, non-denominational program offering affordable, high-quality groceries for anyone in and around the Cordova community. There are no limits to the number of boxes one may buy, and no qualifications, requirements, or applications.

Menus change each month and can be seen online at angelfoodministries.com. 
Orders may be placed online using a debit or credit card. There is also a designated day each month for persons to place pre-paid orders at the church with exact cash or EBT food stamp cards.
