KIPP has announced that Richard Bailey will open a KIPP public charter high school in Memphis in 2011. This will be the second school for KIPP Memphis, which plans to expand to eight schools by 2015.  When all of its schools reach full enrollment in 2015, KIPP Memphis will serve over 2,500 students from the highest-need communities in Memphis. Richard Bailey, an experienced teacher from KIPP DIAMOND Academy, is currently participating in KIPP’s prestigious year-long leadership training program called the Fisher Fellowship.

For demonstrating a higher commitment to service Angela Autry, Lindsay Murphy and Diamond Smith have earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.  Angela and Lindsay have been awarded a $1,000 Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship to further her educational goals.

 “I was raised knowing that education was the most important tool I could have,” said Lindsay.  “ I have had many opportunities to do good things because of Girl Scouts and I am very grateful to the program.

A Girl Scout Gold Award project is something that a girl can be passionate about.  It creates change or action with long-term possibilities, empowering others besides just the girl. The project is more than a good service project—it encompasses organizational, leadership, and networking skills.  The Gold Award is highly respected by colleges, universities and employers.
