Germantown scout troop heads out for high adventure

A crew from Boy Scouts of America Troop 64, chartered by Germantown United Methodist Church, is at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico this week.  The boys will be hiking across the high desert reservation for almost two weeks, carrying their tents, food, and the rest of their supplies on their backs.  They left Germantown last week.

Going to Philmont teaches older scouts responsibility, teamwork, and endurance.  Besides that, most boys say it's just plain fun to leave behind civilization for a while.

The crew is lead by several adults, including Morris Moore, a longtime Troop 64 leader and Cordova businessman.  Moore spends much of the year leading up to a Philmont trek training the boys and adults about what it takes to complete the journey.  He has taken Troop 64 crews to Philmont many times.
