Schnuck's only closing one store

Despite lots of speculation, Schnuck's isn't leaving the Memphis market.

The grocery chain is closing its Cordova store at 1150 North Germantown Parkway, but representatives say Schnuck's isn't planning to close any other stores.

Lori Willis, director of communications for Schnucks, says the store is shutting its doors because of increased pressure from five competing stores within a two-mile radius.

"In the Cordova area our concern is there are so many competitors in a very small area, and there's not enough customer traffic to go around," Willis said.

Willis also said it wasn't true that other area stores were going to be closed.

The Cordova store is scheduled to close Saturday, August 28 at 6 p.m.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police continued their investigation Wednesday into the alleged rape of a 23-month-old child by three boys, ranging in age from 14 to 11-years-old.

Officials at Shelby County Juvenile Court said the three boys remain in court custody, charged with a crime that is rare.

"The more common charges that we see would be shoplifting and things like that," said Barry Mitchell, Chief Probation Officer at Shelby County Juvenile Court. "We see cases like this, but it would be more of the infrequent type cases that we see."

A 14-year old and two of his friends, ages 11 and 13, are charged with raping a 23-month-old girl. Memphis police said the incident happened around 10:30 Monday night in the 7900 of Ryan Cove in Cordova.  At the time, the toddler's parents were at work.

According to investigators, the three boys called police to report that they had been robbed while in an apartment.  But sex crime investigators later determined the story was fabricated by the boys.
