Sanga Grove storm drains getting repairs

People in part of Cordova have been driving carefully through their neighborhood, because they were scared their cars might be swallowed by storm drains.

But on Thursday, Sept. 9, city workers had blocked off at least some of the storm drains in the Sanga Grove neighborhood, warning drivers of the traffic hazard. The city says it will begin work on at least one of the problem drains on Friday, Sept. 10.

The drains have separated from the surrounding pavement which caused gaping holes to form. Experts with the city government said a variety of things can cause the problem, anything from settling pavement to being run over by heavy vehicles like garbage trucks.

To let city workers know about problems in your neighborhood, call the Mayor’s Citizens Service Center at 901-576-6000, or online by clicking here.
