Ugandan children recovering after years of violence

Life Church is hosting a group of children still trying to recover from the effects of Uganda’s two decades of civil unrest.

Watoto, a group that provides health care, education and other services to the people of Uganda, wille make a stop at the church Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Organizers hope the “Restore Tour” will not only teach people about the horrors suffered by thousands of Ugandans, but will also raise money to support Watoto’s mission.

“In Uganda, we found a community - men, women and children left despondent, desperate, stripped of dignity, value and hope,” the group’s founder Gary Skinner said in a written statement. “It is our goal and mission to restore what has been lost.

According to Watoto, as many as 20,000 children were abducted and forced to fight in the nation’s 20 years of violence.

The school was recommended for the honor by the Council for American Private Education, a national group that promotes private schools.

St. Francis’ principal Beth York and teacher Sara Clark will travel to the nation’s capital in November to accept the award on the school’s behalf.
